The Free Market
Electricity is purchased on the free electricity market from the electricity trading firms. All electricity sources compete in the market, from large power plants to the individual windmill. If you have not expressly chosen a company, you will automatically receive power from the local electricity company, which has a so-called public utility license.
If you have not made a special agreement with your electricity company, you will receive power at a price that applies for one quarter of a year. The price in a given quarter reflects the current prices on the electricity market, and the prices are regulated by the Danish Energy Regulatory Authority.
A profit may not be earned from supplying electricity. The price you pay thus covers only the actual costs along with costs for investing in necessary infrastructure.
